July 20, 2010
Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed forward John Mori (“MORE ee”). In his first full season as a pro last year, Mori (6’1/199) (24), scored twenty-seven goals, assisted on thirty-eight others (sixty-five points) and picked up forty-four penalty minutes in seventy-three games with the Flint Generals of the International Hockey League. Mori’s offensive production placed him second amongst rookies in the IHL in goals, assists and points, and earned him a selection to the league’s All-Rookie Team. Mori, who hails from Westport, Connecticut, also earned a one game call up to the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL in December.
Mori, who was selected as the IHL’s Rookie of the Month three times last season, led the league with six short-handed goals. He played to a team-leading plus-13 (+13) for the Generals in the regular season and was an integral member of a Flint squad that advanced to the IHL Turner Cup Championship Finals before being knocked off by the Fort Wayne Komets. Mori, who tied for the team lead with seven goals in twelve playoff games, assisted on the overtime game winner for Flint in the team’s only victory in the best-of-seven Turner Cup Final series. Mori began his pro career with a four-game stint with the Port Huron IceHawks of the IHL after the completion of his senior season at Providence College. In a four year collegiate career that was limited by injury, Mori played sixty-four total games with the Friars, scoring two goals, picking up seven assists (nine points) and registering thirty penalty-minutes.
The Royals host the team’s tenth anniversary home opener on Saturday, October 23, 2010 (7:05 pm), when the Elmira Jackals visit the Sovereign Center.
